It's all in the details...

I was blog reading the other day and Jenny at Little Green Notebook mentioned that living in a small space means you need to pay special attention to the details in your home design.

It was like a lightbulb went off.

She showed a picture of a drawer that had a contrasting color on the inside. It looked awesome.
But it got me thinking, I should add more special touches to my home!

Which got me thinking about the interior of my kitchen cabinets, which are currently unpainted, though the exterior is painted white.
This is a perfect cold weather project!

I'm debating.....should the inside be yellow or blue?

Help me decide!

I'm definitely leaning one way over the other, but you may convince me otherwise!

Design Challenge

We recently got this bedding for our bedroom

And currently still have our black and white rug underneath....which clashes.
Mr. Free doesn't mind though....
I'm hoping to use some Christmas/Birhday money and get a new rug for our bedroom.

Here's some contendors

My favorite....but way too $$$
west elm
walmart

If I lived near an IKEA the most affordable option would be to get 4 of these delish doormats and stitch them together to make one large rug.

Considering most would be hidden under the bed, I don't think it'd be a bad option...

I'd like it to have a little texture without competing with the bedding.
Which one would you choose?
Most are probably out of my budget, but I hope to use these as inspiration for a more affordable option!

Anyone live near an IKEA???

A New Blog I Love....

Last night I stumbled upon the blog White Waxflower.
white waxflower

Her style is amazing....I absolutely love it.
Here's some pics of her place:

Isn't it gorgeous?! Totally love her style....

Plus I learned a couple of tips:
* I loved her photos....she said she uses her iphone with the CameraBag app ($1.99). I totally downloaded it onto Mr. Free's iphone last night.
* The site Vintage Printables.
It is a site of vintage prints that are public domain so anyone can print them, frame them and use them in your home!

Just wanted to pass along the blog love.....any new blogs you've found to share??

P.S. Thanks for the comments on the last post....it was good to hear from some readers!

And I thought MY home was small...

I recently saw this clip about this apartment and it is amazing! Such a great idea!
Please check it out...it almost makes me want to live in 300 sq. feet!

Almost.

Dreaming of a pantry...

I feel incredibly blessed to be in our home. It is perfect for the two of us.
I do however, have a long-running list of hopes and dreams in a future home.
One thing near the top?
A pantry.
Right now our food is crammed into an overhead cabinet and on top of our fridge.
Not so chic.
Here's some very inspirational pantry pics:

I love how it looks just like a china cabinet and armoire, but really, its a walk in pantry!

I love the screen door! So cute!

Seriously....room to sit in a pantry?! Amazing.

I love these doors!

Forget just sitting in my pantry...I need a ladder!

I love these picture. The chalboard door, the milk glass, the retro clock and the glass containers. It's sooo pretty!

I like all the colors....though this kinda looks like a clothes closet converted into a pantry. I'm not one to judge...I'd take it in a heart beat!

I love the sliding glass doors and the life preserver over it! I have to keep this one in my files for whenever *hopefully* one day live at the lake!

Another screen door idea...love the pop of red!

Oh yellow....you are still my favorite color!

Doesn't this just inspire you to cook?!

This is one of my favorites too. It's massive! I love all the jars holding dry ingredients and spices. I love the light fixtures too! Beautiful!

*Sigh*

One day.

Art gallery hallway

Mr. Free just finished his Senior art show.
His work was awesome- rave reviews!
So now we have a bunch of his work all framed and ready to display!

Being the ever-so proud wife I am, I've been brainstorming the best places to display his creativity.
We thought doing a gallery-style display down our hallway would look pretty neat...
I perused the 'ol internet for some inspiration, and here's what I found...

I really hope Mr. Free will help with the hanging of them.....
I'm kind of known for just 'eye balling it' and making a bunch of holes in the wall....
I have the patience of a 2 year old I tell ya...

So...what do you think? Love it? Hate it?

I'll be sure to post pics once it's done! (Hopefully sooner than later...)

post no. 101

It's late Sunday night and I have a busy week ahead....

This week I have to:
* Clean the house...it's badddd
* Organize our home office
* Do a butt-load of laundry
* Write a paper for Grad school
* Go to class
* Go to work, obviously
* 4th grade choir concert on Thursday night
* 4th grade choir tour Friday
* Family birthday party Friday night
* Host a baby shower for my sister-in-law Saturday

So, yeah, I'm completely overwhelmed.

I want our home office to look pretty, so I've been looking for some pics. Here's what I got:

All pretty similar, huh? I guess I know what I like....
Well, I'm off to bed to get a little shut eye before this whirlwind of a week hits me...

Any advice readers? How to tackle a never-ending to-do list without just sitting down and crying?

Spring Homes Tour

One of my favorite things about Spring is the Spring Homes Tour!
Nothing makes me want to go home and clean house more than seeing these perfectly spotless and manicured homes.

My mom and I were out running errands and decided to peak into one of the homes.
It is beautiful!
Nothing earth-shattering, but gave me some good ideas for when we can *hopefully* build a home someday.

Here are the highlights:

I liked the 2 different granites between the countertops and the island countertops.
Don't let that pantry fool you....
She looks like your average pantry.....
A ha!!! Amazing!!!!
I wasn't jealous at all....no....considering she is double the size of my closet!

Upstairs laundry....definitely on my list of wants!

2 shower heads.....genius!
I want that tub, I want that tub, I want that tub....
I totally loved the color of the hardwoods they have. The next house will have dark hardwood floors I do declare....

I loved this built-in mud room bench and storage!!!

That's it!!! Thanks for touring with me!
I am curious though, what's on your list for your dream home?
A walk-in pantry? Jacuzzi tub? Home office? Kitchen island?

Do tell!!!
