Becoming a Morning Person.

This is how I feel every.single.morning.

I have never been a morning person.
Ever since I was born I could easily and happily sleep 10 hours.
However, life doesn't quite give you 1o hours to sleep anymore.

I find myself staying up a bit too late, and then sleeping in until the lastpossiblesecond and then rushing around trying to not be late for work.

That's how I've rolled for the last 25 years.
Time to shake things up.
I *want* to be a morning person.

How am I going to do that?
I have no idea.

I try setting my alarm earlier, and I still snooze it.
I put my phone (aka my alarm) across the room.
I will get up, go change the alarm time, and go back to sleep.

I am bad.

Why do I want to be a morning person?
1) I think it will set the day up to be better...less stress
2) I think putting my bible study time first thing will really help my focus for the rest of the day.
3) I could eat breakfast! Like....actually, sit and eat a breakfast!
4) I could actually do my hair (instead of the usual not-enough-time bun) and maybe even throw on a necklace!
5) I could help start Mr. Free's day off well. I could do something productive first thing to help his day go a bit smoother.

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" Philippians 4:13
I am clinging to this....Lord help me be a productive, happy morning person!

So...are you a morning person? Are you a converted morning person? Are you anti-mornings like me?
If you have any tips or encouragement, please pass them along!
I need it!

  1. I have gone back and forth from morning to not. I can be a morning person, as long as I get enough sleep. I tell you, I eat breakfast every day and sit and read etc. for half an hour or my day does not go well. So my suggestion, make sure you go to bed at a decent hour (no one is a morning person with sleep deprivation) and make sure you have a decent breakfast to look forward to. Also, take a shower right away to help wake up. Happy Waking:)

  2. whether or not I am a morning person depends on my current pattern of life. In high school I would arrive often before 7am (remember, school started at 7:30) Just to check on my homework, make sure I had everything down and maybe practice voice or violin a bit before school started. PSYCHO. In college, when I got used to later classes, I couldn't hardly pull myself out of bed before 9am. Now last summer I worked at a daycare where I had to be at work (which was a 30 minute drive away IF rush hour was light) by 6:45 so over the summer I was a morning person again. Then we moved to TX and I am now not a morning person again. LOL

For me, it all depends on what I get my body conditioned to, but if I'm getting up early, I HAVE to be in bed by whatever time will get me a solid 8 hours of sleep minimum. (This means usually going to bed 8 1/2 or 9 hours before I need to get up the next morning to give myself time to get drowsy and fall asleep... I'm like you... 10 hours a night, NO PROB. lol)

  3. Like previous comments you can only become a morning person if you go to bed early. That is what I usually do so I can have time to eat breakfast. I really like waking up and being able to read for a while so if I am lucky I will wake up with enough time to do this. But I have just conditioned myself to go to bed early, like 9pm, so I can wake up early with plenty of sleep.

  4. it's hard for sure... but if you want a bit of encouragement (it's really a lot of encouragement) you should check out the book "Shopping for Time" by Carolyn Mahaney and her daughters... it's a short and easy book to read filled with great time management ideas, including a chapter about rising early :) I'm sure it would be very affordable on amazon probably
